Basket E010157

This bicornual shaped basket with handle and decorated with coloured pigments was donated to the museum in 1901, and is from the Tully River region of Queensland. The basket is made from bugul or lawyer cane and could have been used by both men and women of the Tully River. The handle looped over the head and hung on the back leaving the hands free so women would use the baskets to collect food, and men would use smaller baskets to carry personal and ceremonial items.
