Ad giz: ancestral figure E17495

An ochred ancestral human figure, made out of plant fibre, with a pith head and turtle-shell ears. It is a miniature representation of a Komet District ancestor called Ginamai. It is said to be associated with ancestral rituals and is called ad giz by the Meriam people. It was collected by John Bruce and presented by Percy G. Black in 1908. Size 23x20cm.
