The Australian Museum celebrated Indigenous history, culture and achievements at the NAIDOC in the City.

As a part of the NAIDOC week celebrations, the Australian Museum staff ventured out into Hyde Park with specimens, objects and taxidermy animals for NAIDOC in the City. This is the third year the event has been run by the Deadly Vibe events group in conjunction with the City of Sydney and third time the Museum has been involved.

The growing popularity of this free event was evident by the streams of families, tourists and vacation care groups pouring through the Park and into the Australian Museums marquee. – Where parents were pleasantly surprised that their children could freely touch the displays and hone their didgeridoo & clap sticks skills provided by the Australian Museum as well as having the opportunity to have their faces painted using traditional Aboriginal ochre.

NAIDOC week is a celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This year’s theme, Serving Country: Centenary & Beyond honours all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women who have fought in defence of country.
