Image: A jar of leptocephali
A jar of unregistered leptocephali (larval eels) specimens. A larval fish is a tiny fish that is not yet a juvenile. Often larvae are collected in a very fine meshed net towed slowly behind a boat. Important research on larvae is helping to understand many aspects fish development, biology and distributions.
