An Emperor Penguin collected by Sir Ernest Shackleton, a Lion from Botswana, and shell currency from the Solomon Islands are just some of the more than 300 mysterious and rare objects now on show in our Skeleton Gallery.

While most of your Skeleton Gallery favourites remain, a 70 square metre section of the gallery has been transformed to offer a sneak preview of what the entire gallery may become at the completion of a forthcoming facelift.

The preview space is a contemporary tribute to the gallery’s 1857 origins and a great chance for you to see more of the Museum’s vast collections on public display.
