I was very proud to represent the Australian Museum at the Museums & Galleries National Awards 2012 on September 25 in Adelaide. Our Museum2you project was a finalist in the Temporary Exhibitions category — and to my delight was announced the winner!

Judges commented that they 'admired the innovative treatment of this important and topical theme, and its use of a variety of media to engage audiences broadly and diversely.’

In the last 18 months or so, Karen Player (Museum Outreach Coordinator) and I, with the help of the Australian Museum staff, worked very hard on Museum2you.

We aimed to create an exhibition and education program that would reach out across NSW to build environmental citizens who care about important environmental and sustainability issues and transform the wider community in adopting sustainable practices by engaging them in learning about these issues and empowering them to be better custodians of the planet.

Since its launch in May 2012, it has been great to receive positive feedback from the host organisations that have trialled the program.

‘It’s a wonderful display with excellent resources and it’s just a great idea!’ said Hayley Bates, Urban Sustainability Officer at North Sydney Council and recent Museum2you host.

‘The Museum2you resource is what’s need to help community groups become community action groups.’

Now, to get a Museums & Galleries National Award is definitely the cherry on top!
