Each 'Scientist For a Day' program has different themes, designed to show kids what it’s like to work in different areas of science.

Our Scientist For a Day program is a full day social and educational workshop for young minds aged 8-12, with a focus on encouraging a curiosity for and understanding of science. Each Scientist For a day program has different themes, designed to show kids what it’s like to work in different areas of science.

The programs include hands on activities and experiments that provide practical demonstrations of the content being taught, as well as rare behind the scenes opportunities that allow the kids to engage with practicing scientists within the museum, as well as the external science community.

Our gallery visits get the children to explore the museum with the aid of specifically tailored tours and learning activities that allow the children to engage with our collections and learn how to use them later on to further their own individual interests.

As well as our gallery visits and guest speakers the program includes craft activities that allow the creative expression of concepts being learned and the creation of a physical object that can be taken home as a reminder of the things that were learnt throughout the day.

For 2015 our programs will look to coincide with what is going on in the external science community and to allow the children to engage in topics that are presented by the museum’s exhibitions and that relate to fields researched by AM scientists.

Our January programs kicked off the year with an exploration of both science and culture as the children learnt about the Mighty Aztecs and Evolution with guest talks from AM staff Karen Player, Fran Dorey, Robin Torrence and Melissa Murray.
