Fishes in the family Antennariidae, have also been called angler fishes, frogfishes, sea mice and shore anglerfishes. Antennariids are classified in a different suborder, the Antennarioidei, to the deepsea anglerfishes. Worldwide there are about 43 species. The Australian fauna contains 27 species in 13 genera, 5 of which are temperate endemic genera.
