Trailblazers talks at Australian Museum

From the top of Mount Everest to the bottom of the world’s deepest cave, the Australian Museum invites you to join us on Thursday evenings for drinks and conversation with Australia’s greatest living explorers.

Every Thursday at 6pm, from 25 February to 14 July, the excitement of exploration will be showcased through a series of talks, film screenings and panel discussions profiling great adventurers and the wonders of the natural world.

The first series of talks during February and March.

25 February: An evening on Everest. Hear renowned mountaineer, Greg Mortimer OAM, the first Australian to climb Mount Everest and the first person to climb without oxygen, in conversation with exhibition curator and adventurer Howard Whelan discussing what it takes to persevere against all odds.</li>
3 March: The Crossing. Watch the thrilling film The Crossing, then listen to explorers Clark Carter and Chris Bray with director, Jules Harvey about the trials and tribulations of endeavouring to walk across Victoria Island, located in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
9 March: Pioneering Women. Celebrating International Women's Day, pioneering solo sailor, Jessica Watson OAM, will share her incredible journey with Australian Museum's CEO & Director, Kim McKay AO.
17 March: Walking with Camels. Observations of a landscape. Cameleer and scientific researcher, Andrew Harper was the first person to walk across Australia with camels from West to East. Andrew will bring to life the mystery, beauty and deep heart of our wide brown land.
24 March: The Unsung trailblazers of Astronomy. Astronomer Fred Watson looks to the sky and shines a light on a few of astronomy's unsung trailblazers
31 March. In search of the world's deepest cave. Meet Alan Warild, the world's greatest caver, who has set depth records around the globe and trialed new techniques, sharing the wonders of going where no man has been before.

Exhibition: Trailblazers: Australia's 50 greatest explorers, celebrates Australia's greatest explorers, from historical pioneers through to modern day legends. Showcasing Australian triumphs on sea, in the air and in the wild, Trailblazers provides an unprecedented insight into the pioneers who have helped forge our national identity.
