Image Gallery: Scorpionfishes

The taxonomy of the scorpionfishes has undergone considerable work over the years.  The Scorpaeniformes are generally regarded as a group of fishes that are characterised by the presence of a bony suborbital stay (basically, a ridge of bone that runs under they eye). Including all allied families there are around 1200 species of scorpionfishes worldwide.
