Image Gallery: Historic images of Lord Howe Island field trips

Our connection with Lord Howe Island stretches back to the first Museum field trip in 1869 and continues today. The earliest field trips relied on illustrations to capture the colour and life of specimens. Later expeditions with cheaper and more portable photographic equipment and newer collecting techniques could take photos and bring back well preserved specimens for the Museum's collections.
