Lord Howe Island diorama conservation project

The Lord Howe Island diorama is undergoing some TLC from June 2012 onwards.

The conservation project, made possible with a grant from the Australian Museum Foundation, will involve removing 44 bird specimens and over 20 egg specimens that have been in situ since 1922.

Specimens will be cleaned and treated in the conservation lab while work continues in the diorama on the plaster, wire substrate and painted backdrop. Located in the Skeleton Gallery, the diorama will be unveiled and on show in August when conservators will be working during opening hours on the diorama. So watch this space!
