Location, Parking and Public Transport
Find out about the Museum's location, how to get here using public transport and where to park your bicycle or car.
Location
The Australian Museum is located on the corner of College Street and William Street in central Sydney, just across the road from Hyde Park and opposite St.Mary's Cathedral.
Trains
The nearest train stations are St.James, Museum and Town Hall. Each are of equal distance to us and are an easy and mostly level seven minute walk.
Please note that Museum Station does not offer lift access
If you have a stroller or wheelchair, please note that your journey through Hyde Park will end in stairs at each of the Museum corners on College/Park Streets. Level exit is available at the St. Mary's Cathedral pedestrian crossing if coming from St. James Station and at the corner of College and Liverpool Streets if coming from Museum Station.
Buses
For bus services arriving in the city centre, alight near Town Hall or the Queen Victoria Building and simply walk east along Park Street towards Kings Cross - a 7 to 10 minute walk.
Sydney Trip Planner helps you plan your journey to the Museum using public transport.
The Museum is on the Sydney and Bondi Hop-on Hop-off Tour bus route with a stop right outside our doors.
Bicycles
The Museum is conveniently located on the Sydney Cycleways Network.
Bicycles may be secured to the bicycle rack at the base of the Museum exit steps on College Street, next to Sydney Grammar School.
Car parking stations
There are three parking stations within easy walking distance of the Museum. Check their websites for rates, times and maps:
- Secure Parking, Riley Street
- Domain Car Park, St Mary's Road
- Enacon Parking, Cathedral St (under Cook and Phillip Park)
To take advantage of the special rates for Museum visitors at Secure Parking in Riley Street, simply ask our Admission staff for a Universal Rebate Ticket (URT) to use when paying as you exit the parking station.

These rates are determined by Secure Parking and are subject to occasional change. We attempt to display these rates accurately at all times.
