Facilities

The Station provides excellent facilities including shared, self-catering accommodation, boats, basic laboratory facilities, a versatile seawater aquarium system, and scuba tanks and air fills.

Planning your Trip

Use the following checklists to prepare for your visit to Lizard Island Research Station.

Research

A major part of the Lizard Island Research Station's mission is to facilitate scientific research into coral reefs. Learn about current and past research projects, publications, and fellowships that are available to assist with research at Lizard Island.

Volunteers

You can volunteer for the Station by joining the Station Volunteer Program or as Research Volunteer with a visiting Research Team.

Education

Groups of school and university students are welcome to use the Research Station's facilities for educational field trips organised by their own institutions. Some non-student groups also use the Research Station as a base for exploration of the coral reef and/or island ecosystems.

Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation

The Foundation provides funding for capital development at the Station and for the Lizard Island Fellowships Program.
