The Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation and its donors supports numerous research programs at Lizard Island.

Lizard Island Doctoral Fellowship

Members of the Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation provide the funding for this Fellowship for PhD students. Each Fellowship runs for up to three years and 41 have been awarded to date.

 Peter Teakle Sustainable Fishing Research Grant

The Teakle Foundation funds this grant to investigate sustainable recreational line fishing practices in tropical marine fish. Two grants have been awarded to date.

The 2013 grant was awarded to Dr Timothy Clark (Australian Institute of Marine Science), Dr Steven Cooke (Carleton University, Canada), Dr Andrew Tobin (Fishing and Fisheries Research Centre, James Cook University), and Prof Morgan Pratchett and Dr Vanessa Messmer (both of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University).

The 2012 grant was awarded to Dr Timothy Clark (Australian Institute of Marine Science), Dr Steven Cooke (Carleton University, Canada), Dr Vanessa Messmer and Prof Morgan Pratchett (ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, James Cook University), and Andrew Tobin (Fishing and Fisheries Research Centre, James Cook University).
