Hi again Tom.  I have just heard back from two colleagues who know more about clingfishes than I ever will.  Both agree with your identification that the fish is a Bridled Clingfish, Lepadichthys frenatus.  I'll 'elevate' your image from a comment attachment to a visible image.  Thank you again for submitting it.

Hi Tom.  That's a great image!  Thank you for sending it.  The fish could well be L. frenatus.  The species is certainly known from LHI.  I'll forward your image to the expert and will email you when I hear back.

Hi Mark I am trying to ID a clingfish from Lord Howe Island. I have been told this might be Lepadichthys frenatus? Can you help with the ID from the attached picture? Cheers Tom
