Geddes Visiting Research Fellowship
The Geddes Visiting Research Fellowship offers researchers up to $8,000 to work on research projects with Australian Museum Scientists.

Research fellows must be nominated by a staff member of the Australian Museum who is the leader of a research project. The fellowship is offered to researchers intending to work across any of the museum’s collections including cultural, anthropological as well as the natural science collections.
Research Fellows are chosen for the skills, knowledge and/or expertise they bring to a specific project. Proposals must aim to further the Museum's research priorities as set out in the Science Research Strategy 2007-2012.
Selection Criteria:
a) Demonstrated link with Australian Museum collaborator.
b) Relevance of intended outcomes to the research priorities as set out in the Science Research Strategy 2007-2012.
c) Significance of the scientific contribution to the field of study.
d) Quality and clarity of the proposal.
e) The extent to which the proposal provides the Museum with access to research skills or knowledge that are not available on site.
f) Clear and appropriate budget.
g) Quality of the applicant’s research track record.
The maximum amount of the fellowship is $8,000 to assist with living costs, travel and research expenses (e.g. bench fees and specialist analyses). The maximum duration of the fellowship is 12 months.
Living costs: The maximum amount allowed for living costs is $800 per week.
DNA Facilities: If you plan to use the Museum’s DNA facilities to undertake molecular studies, please include this as a line item in your budget. If you need assistance with costings, please contact the DNA Lab Manager.
SEM Facilities: If your proposal involves use of the scanning electron microscope please specify this as a line item in your budget. For assistance with costings, please contact the manager of Microscopy and Microanalysis.
Salary and stipend: the successful applicant cannot use any of the awarded amounts to pay salary or stipend. A statement on letterhead from an applicant's employer certifying that his or her salary or stipend and associated expenses will be paid by that institution during the tenure of the fellowships must accompany the application.
Applicants are advised to liaise with the relevant Australian Museum research project leader when preparing their application. Application forms must be signed by that Australian Museum researcher.

Application checklist:
- Completed application form, signed by the nominating Australian Museum researcher.
- Curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and the names and contact details of at least two referees.
- A statement on letterhead from your employer certifying that your salary or stipend and associated expenses will be paid during the tenure of the fellowship.
