Fossils
Fossils (from the Latin fossus, meaning 'having been dug up') are the mineralised remains or traces of animals, plants, and other organisms from the remote past. The word ‘palaeontology’ refers to the study of ancient life and is derived from the Greek words palaios (ancient) and logos (study). Fossils form the basis of this science as they are the main evidence about past life.
