Image Gallery: Catfishes
Catfishes are readily recognised by the barbels around the mouth. Worldwide, the order Siluriformes contains over 2200 species, with over half occurring in South America. Most are freshwater fishes but the two families that occur in Australia (Ariidae and Plotosidae) both have freshwater and marine species.
