Boxing dried fish type specimens, April 2005

The Ichthyology Collection contains 39 dried fish type specimens that were previously stored in cardboard boxes and plastic bags. Staff of the Materials Materials Conservation Branch ran a program to improve the storage of these irreplaceable specimens.

Specimens were individually boxed in polypropylene Corex boxes that were made to suit the dimensions of the relevant fish. Each box contains polyethylene foam supports to cradle the specimen and ensure its continued integrity. The program began in April 2005 and is now complete.
