FLW 2012 competition

The Fashion Less Waste design competition aims to encourage a more sustainable fashion industry – to help to fashion a less wasteful world.

Entrants were asked to create an outfit that is mostly made from used non-clothing materials. We wanted eye-catching creations that could provoke thought about environmental issues in the fashion industry.

Another main competition aim is to celebrate and encourage the practice of designers finding inspiration from the natural world. This year entrants were invited to be inspired by creatures from the sea, in connection to our current exhibition Deep Oceans, showing until 14 October 2012.

Our judges made their decisions based on the following criteria:

  • Originality
  • Style (including the incorporation of deep ocean inspiration)
  • Proportion of materials that were originally used for a non-clothing purpose
  • Craftsmanship
