Image Gallery: AAWHG Wildlife Management Forum 2012 Day 1

Day 1 of the Australian Aviation Wildlife Hazard Group (AAWHG) Wildlife Management Forum 2012 was hosted by the Australian Museum.

Australian Museum Director Frank Howarth officially opened the forum. Attendees were welcomed and introductory speeches were given by AAWHG chairperson Laurie Taylor (737 Fleet Manager QANTAS) and deputy chairperson Darren Angelo (CASA) presented an AAWHG update.

Morning session speakers were: David Wilson (ATSB), Ben Gyetvay, Acting Section Head – Operational Safety Analysis (CASA), Jill Holdsworth (NT Airports Pty Ltd), Phil Shaw (Avisure / IBSC), Dilip Mathew (Dept Infrastructure and Transport).

Michael Wells (Burnie Airport / AAWHG) chaired the afternoon session which began with a group presentation of a birdstrike case study tracking the timeline from strike to investigation to legal by Luke Harvey (BAC- Airside Coord & Wildlife Manager), Capt Dick Coleman (Qantas – Flight Operations), Matthew Hill (Qantas Engineering), Andrew King (Australian Museum DNA lab) and Nick Brodribb (Qantas – Head of Legal).

The group presentation was followed by presentations from Mark Gray-Spencer (Lawyer - AeroSure Asia), Claire Arthur (NatureCall), Wendy Weir (Brisbane Airport Corporation), Tony Conte (Sydney Airport), Jill Holdsworth (NT Airports Pty Ltd).

Day 1 proceedings were rounded out with a panel discussion of airport case studies facilitated by Michael Wells (Burnie Airport / AAWHG), and a closing speech by Darren Angelo (CASA / AAWHG Deputy Chairperson).
